According to an exclusive report by Bollywood Life, Sanober Baig has filed a case against the makers of Lock Upp and a stay order has been granted against the release of the reality show on 27 February. He has claimed that he created the concept of the show called ‘Jail’ and registered the same in 2018. Writer-director Shantanu Ray was signed for the same. Baig shared that they spent nearly 6 months preparing the script and creating the concept of the show after which he approached Star Plus for the same. He added that he was in talks with the channel for about 6 months but things did not work out after which he approached Endemol Shine for the same. After several meetings, a contract was also signed for the web series following which he disclosed the concept in front of the CEO of Endemol, Abhishek Rege and it was decided that the series will be a joint venture. Soon after the Covid-19 pandemic began leading to a lockdown which put everything on hold. “All of a sudden last week, I saw this promo that he has already made the series taking ALT Balaji as the co-producer I think. They were about to release on 27th February, so then I approached the court and got the stay order against them,” Sanober Baig told Bollywood Life.

Speaking about Lock Upp, Sanober Baig shared that he did not contact the makers before taking legal action as he found out very recently and felt ‘cheated’ and did not want to reach out to them. He also said that he wanted the makers to contact him but when that did not happen he approached the court to get justice. Discussing an out of court settlement, Baig said that this matter is not about money but about the ‘bread and butter’ of about 30 to 35 people involved in the creation of the reality show. He revealed that a team of 30-35 people worked on the concept for about 200 days adding that everyone deserves to get paid for it and now they feel ‘backstabbed’. He further added that the Bombay Civil Court appointed a bailiff to personally hand the court’s stay order to the makers on 25 February to ensure that they don’t deny receiving the court order.
