Ahead Of Entering ‘Lock Upp’, Munawar Faruqui Says There Is Nothing Wrong With Being Controversial

When it comes to controversies, Kangana Ranaut is the queen of it. There hasn’t been a year where the actor hasn’t made any controversial remark or statement. Having said that, she isn’t the only one. Even stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui has been known to create controversies, time and again. So what will happen when the two of them meet? Well, something loud, dramatic, and entertaining, I hope. Well, we won’t have to wait too long to find out since Munawar Faruqui is the second contestant of Kangana Ranaut and Ekta Kapoor’s new reality show Lock Upp

Munawar Faruqui has always been the one to speak his mind, so it wasn’t much of a surprise, when right before entering Lock Upp, in an interview, he spoke about being controversial and that it doesn’t matter to him whether people think him to be controversial.

Munawar Faruqui said, “Firstly, I don’t think there’s anything wrong in being controversial. It only means that people did not hear your side of the story, or maybe you were taken out of context. I never wanted to be a part of controversies. I never went and told the media my statement to cause some bawaal (commotion).”

The stand-up comedian then went on to say that we live in a democracy and that means all ideologies must be respected. He said that if someone believed in having ideologies then they will also believe that we live in a democracy and so others are allowed to have ideologies that are different from theirs. The 30-year-old said, “We all have the freedom of speech and to put across our beliefs. If one expects to be heard and their opinions respected, they too would have to do the same. It’s going to be a give and take situation.”

Honestly, having seen some of his stand-ups I’ve somewhat related to what he means. Having said that, I’m not sure if being controversial on every matter or most matters is a good thing. Apart from this, the real question is how the equation between him and Kangana Ranaut will be like when they’ll be seen together in Lock Upp.

The show will be screened on OTT platforms like Alt Balaji and MX Player from February 27th, 2022.
