Disney Denied Saudi Arabia’s Request To Remove LGBTQ+ Scene From ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’. It Is Just 12 Seconds Though!

Just yesterday I came across the news that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or Doctor Strange 2 has been banned in Saudi Arabia for the LGBTQ+ representation that has been done by the inclusion of a lesbian character, America Chavez played by Xochitl Gomez. However, the news has come forth that Disney has refused to cut the scene which represents the LGBTQ+ from the movie despite Saudi Arabia’s demand. It has also been clarified that Doctor Strange 2 has not been banned yet.

Disney has so far denied requests to edit out the allusion to LGBTQ+ from Doctor Strange 2. According to Nawaf Alsabhan, general supervisor of cinema classification in Saudi Arabia, the cuts are worth a mere 12 seconds in which America Chavez talks about both her mothers.

He further said that Chavez is talking about her “two moms” as she has two mothers as parents. He states that being in the Middle East, it is hard to approve of this. He added that they had sent it to the distributor who forwarded it to Disney. However, Disney is not willing to make the edits. Alsabhan addressed the banning rumours and said that “it will never be banned.”He said that there is no reason to outrightly ban Doctor Strange 2 as it is an edit worth only a few seconds. He said that Disney has so far refused to make the edits but they are trying to make them happen, according to sources.
