Delhi HC Wants ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ Makers To Show The Sex Determination Scene Or Else They Will Not Permit It

Movies and their run-ins with the law have now become a regular thing. First, it was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and now it is Yash Raj Films’ Jayeshbhai Jordaar. Yep, the Delhi High Court (HC) recently asked the makers of the movie starring Ranveer Singh to not trivialise the matter of the illegal practice of sex determination of foetus and that they have to be careful not to show this as a routine practice. They further have asked the makers of Jayeshbhai Jordaar to show them the sex determination scene in the context or else they will not permit it.

On Monday, May 9th Delhi HC heard a plea that sought the removal of the sex determination scene from Jayeshbhai Jordaar and asked the makers to show the relevant portions. They warned Yash Raj Films that until they don’t see the scene in the context they will not allow it.

The acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi, who was heading the bench said, “You take instructions. You come back. We will have to see or we will have to stay. Unless we see for ourselves, we will not permit this.”

The Delhi HC judges also pointed out that the trailer of Jayeshbhai Jordaar has not highlighted the fact that the practice of sex determination is illegal. They added, “Don’t trivialise it to show that anybody can walk into any clinic and get it done. The dramatisation should be that they are aware (that it is illegal) but it is still being done.”

As a response to that, the makers argued that Jayeshbhai Jordaar is about something that is illegal and it carries the disclaimer that is concerned with the illegality of the acct in question. To this, the court remarked saying that the size of the disclaimer in the trailer was not noticeable.

As per reports, the Delhi HC has also raised objection to the fact that the trailer of Jayeshbhai Jordaar does not show under which circumstances were the lady taken to the clinic for sex determination. And this is an issue since it can the impression that the family takes that lady to the doctor and  “you come out.” Furthermore, the Delhi HC insisted that the scene needs to be seen in the context and questioned if Jayeshbhai Jordaar was showing the ill of the society or advocating it in any form.

The movie is said to have a theatrical release on May 13.
