Dahan: Raakan Ka Rahasya follows the story of IAS officer, Avni Raut as she goes to a village, Shilaspura, in Rajasthan on a posting. After being disgraced and accused of taking a bribe, Avni is out to redeem herself by kickstarting a Rs 240 crore mining project that might revolutionise the health and pharma sector. But the locals refuse to allow the project to begin as it may harm a rock that they believe keeps them safe as it traps the power of evil in it. The villagers claim that if the rock breaks, evil will be unleashed in the Shilaspura.

The villagers believe that in order to live in peace and keep evil away, they must worship the rock in which the head of a sorcerer, Ridhikayan, is trapped. This temple is called the Shilasthal and is guarded by the Pramukh.
While Pramukh holds a mysterious power and performs exorcisms, Avni being a logical and modern woman refuses to believe in superstitions and occult practices as she attempts to remain practical in order to bring development to the village. Being a single mother Avni struggles as she and her son, Anay, try to deal with the demons of their past. But what happens when supernatural occurrences start troubling Avni? Will she remain practical or will the supernatural rattle her belief system? How will she deal with this situation?

Even though, I’ve only watched one episode, Tisca Chopra as Avni Raut and Saurabh Shukla as Pramukh has blown my mind away with their acting skills. Their subtle but obvious standoff will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. The one thing that is interesting is that Tisca Chopra’s Avni is relatable. She’s a modern independent woman and being as practical as she is, it’s difficult for her to believe in the supernatural and occult. Isn’t that a struggle we all face? To digest things that are against our beliefs? The series also captures the essence of capitalism and the cost of development.

The first episode kickstarts the show, showcasing Avni’s inner battle with her past as well as her attempt to redeem herself while battling superstition as she gets a glimpse of inexplainable situations. The episode is slightly information-heavy but builds intrigue and keeps one on the edge wanting more. It gets more riveting as the story unravels in episode 1. It reveals the story of the Ridhikayan and sets the base of the story while Avni and Anay plunge headfirst into the mystery of supernatural, superstition and occult. It’s a gripping story that promises a riveting, nail-biting thriller. The show also challenges superstitions while trying to explore the story and mystery behind them. The first episode will have you so invested in Avni and Anay’s story that not watching further just isn’t an option.
