Anupriya Goenka Shares Her Experience Of Being “Man Of The House” With The Male Feminist, And It Has A Strong Message For Women!
When we are talking about equality for men and women, there are many angles that need to be considered from a biased viewpoint. And most of the time we don’t realise this. For example, for years now, men who were breadwinners of the family were called “man of the house”, clearly because women were not allowed to become one. But things have changed with time, now for some families, only women have become the sole earners but the phrase and the idea around it have not changed. And for this reason, when girls actually are the only ones supporting the family, we unconsciously think this to be something more or different than we are doing. And this was very well pointed out by Anupriya Goenka in the second episode of Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist and she talked about it from her personal experience.

In a candid yet enlightening chat with The Male Feminist’s host, Siddhaarth Aalambayan, Anupriya Goenka talked about being the only earning member in her family. And because of this, she was always called the “man of the house”. The actress said that because of this, she also got the idea that she was doing something more than expected and that it is a huge thing. Anupriya very well pointed out that this idea should not be encouraged by girls, because looking at the lenses of feminism, this is not correct as then the whole idea of equality gets crushed. Anupriya also stated that if a woman is shouldering the responsibilities of taking care of their family, they should not make this their “identity” or think that they are doing something “out of the norms”. This should also be considered a normal responsibility by women.

Anupriya Goenka has raised a very subtle and less talked about discussion among women. We are talking about equality and this is a part of it. By contributing to the family’s financial conditions, we are not doing something that is not our job or responsibility, we are a part of the family too. We as a society should normalise a girl earning for a family and it’s high time we stop considering this to be a man’s job.
