Amber Heard Reveals Why She Filed For A Divorce From Johnny Depp, Calls Him A “Monster”
The Johnny Depp, Amber Heard court hearing has begun once again following a week-long break. On Monday, the actress was on the stand and testified as to why she filed for divorce from the actor in May 2016. The 36-year-old actress told the jury at the defamation trial that she had to leave him as she knew that she wouldn’t survive if she didn’t. Amber Heard revealed that she was scared that it was going to ‘end really badly’ for her. Pointing out that she had worked really hard to make their relationship work, the actress said that at the time, it felt like leaving Johnny Depp was the hardest thing she has ever had to do because she loved the actor very much.
Recounting her traumatic experience, the Aquaman actress said Johnny Depp would become a ‘monster’ when he was drinking. She went on to share the monster thing had not become normal and it wasn’t the exception anymore, the violence had become normal. Amber Heard said that all her efforts to reduce his drug and alcohol use had failed and the same week she filed for a divorce and sought a temporary restraining order after an argument during which he allegedly threw a phone at her that hit her in the face.

Speaking further Amber Heard went on to open up about how he assaulted her on a train in Asia following their wedding in 2015. She claimed that Johnny Depp held her by the neck and squeezed it against the railway car when they were in their sleeping cabin. She also testified about an incident where the actor hit her after he got jealous over a sex scene that was shot by Amber’s body double and added to the trailer by the makers “unbeknownst” to her. She claimed that they were watching the pre-release trailer of her film London Fields where the makers had put the sex scene and the Depp allegedly got angry at the actress for shooting it and “slapped” and “punched” her.

Earlier, during his four days long testimony, Johnny Depp denied ever hitting Amber Heard and stated that she was the one who was frequently violent. The actor had filed a defamation suit against the actress over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in December 2016 wherein she had described herself as a public figure representing domestic abuse. While she did not name Johnny Depp in the op-ed, he sued her for implying that he was a domestic abuser. He is seeking $50 million in damages in the defamation suit.

The Aquaman actress countersued the actor and asked for $100 million claiming that she suffered “rampant physical violence and abuse”. As of now, the Judge in the case has scheduled the closing arguments in the case for May 27. After that, the case will go to the jury.
