Aamir Khan Opens Up About His Split With Kiran Rao, Says He Shares A Cordial Relationship With Both His Ex-Wives
I don’t know about you peeps, but I honestly, felt as though in the past year, the film industry saw a lot of separations and divorces taking place. Among the lot were Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao’s separation after 15 years of being married. The two first met on the sets of Lagaan in 2001 but did not have anything brewing between them. Aamir Khan met Kiran Rao once again after he divorced his first wife Reena Dutta in 2002. The duo then started dating and soon enough had a live-in relationship. The two of them tied the knot back on December 28, 2005, but after 15 years of being together, the two announced their separation on July 3, 2021. Aamir Khan who is known to keep his personal life private recently opened up about why Kiran Rao and he decided to part ways and the cordial relationship he shares with his ex-wives.

Aamir Khan said in an interview that Kiran Rao and he still love each other and have mutual respect and fondness for each other. And after having a long discussion on the matter, the couple decided to split up. The reason behind the divorce was that their equation as a husband and wife had changed.

Explaining further, the Taare Zameen Par actor said, “And we wanted to give respect to the institution of marriage. We are going to hold each other’s hands and move ahead.” Kiran Rao and he still collaborate on projects of the Paani Foundation. In fact, the film producer lives in the same building as Aamir Khan.

The actor went on to talk about how he has had a good, cordial relationship with both of his ex-wives – Kiran Rao and Reena Dutta. He said, “It’s difficult for people to understand. This is because, usually, we don’t see a bond like this (among couples who separate).” The Dangal actor further added, “Me, Kiran ji, Reena ji and Satyajit Bhatkal have collaborated on the Paani Foundation. In short, Reena ji and I are also working together.”

Aamir Khan even added that all their families were pretty interconnected and cared equally for all of their children – Junaid, Ira, and Azad. He went on to add that Kiran Rao and he is committed to their children and do not wish to cause them any pain or turmoil.

If you ask me, I think it is a good thing to split up rather than live in an exhaustive relationship. And the actor’s life is a perfect example of the fact that you can have a good relationship with your exes – it need not always be salty, peeps.
