This Reddit Thread On Teaching Daughters Self-Esteem Has Us Wishing We Were Raised Like This!

Do you ever sit and wonder about the way you were raised? Like, how would it have been if your parents were more or less strict? Or unorthodox? I do. I sometimes wish my parents would have been more encouraging and validating. That they would have shown more appreciation for my abilities, talents and skills. I also sometimes wish that I was raised in an environment where my appearance wasn’t always commented on or talked about. I feel like these factors resulted in me being a pretty self-conscious and insecure person. And I won’t lie, these issues have affected my self-esteem a lot. Having said that, the newer generations of parents and to-be parents are more conscious about these things and I feel are taking strides to raise their own children differently. Proof of that are the answers to the question “What would you say to your daughter in order to grow up with excellent self-esteem?” on r/women on Reddit. The questions were thought provoking and so are the answers, check it out.

This makes sense,

I feel like we sometimes don’t give enough credit to the way a person is raised. I am not trying to unlearn a lot of how I was raised and trying to take responsibility for myself as an adult through therapy. Having said that, it is a long and hard process to go through but extremely rewarding. And I am hoping that I am able to raise my kids, regardless of their gender, to be more secure, confident and self-assured adults.
