8 Books You Read In Your Childhood That Will Leave You Feeling Nostalgic On Children’s Day!
It is Children’s Day, fellas! Oh, I have so many memories related to this day, and I am sure, you must too! Dressing up in casual clothes in school and celebrating this day make up a majority of my memories of this day from my childhood. But apart from this sarvajanik fun and frolic, I also remember reading the Children’s Day special edition books and comics on this day. Oh, how I used to devour them all in one day because the stories were so interesting and the activities in them were so much fun to do! Growing up, I stopped reading most of these books, and so, I thought what better day than Children’s Day to take a trip down memory lane to reminisce about some of the most amazing books that I read in my childhood that make up a huge part of my personality today!
Secret Seven
Written by the best children’s books author, Enid Blyton, Secret Seven were a rage when we were kids! The mysterious and exciting adventures of Peter, Janet, Pam, Barbara, Jack, Colin and George were what I lived for when I was young! The Secret Seven being detectives in the books made me want to go sniffing around and solve cases, too!
Nancy Drew
Who doesn’t know Nancy Drew? And if you said ‘yes’, well, I am judging you so hard right now. Nancy Drew was the one who made me seriously consider becoming a detective. I loved her bravery, intelligence and her grit throughout the books. These were one-sitting reads for me even back then!
Hardy Boys
If you’ve read Secret Seven and Nancy Drew, you also must have read Hardy Boys! You cannot skip either of the titles because they all go hand-in-hand. Hardy Boys, too, solved mysteries that left the adults scratching their heads.
Sherlock Holmes
Okay, so all the books so far are all based on detective sleuths making you question if I read anything else. I did, okay? Just keep reading further. So, Sherlock Holmes became my first-ever fictional crush, and well, he remains to be even today. How can his deduction skills not impress you? Also, his friendship with Dr Watson had my heart!
Panchatantra
My fondest memories from my childhood are of the folk tales from Panchatantra being told as bedtime stories by my stories! These classic stories had animals as protagonists who were given human qualities, and their actions taught kids values and morals.
Chandamama
These monthly children’s magazines were my forever favourites! The illustrations in these books were so beautiful and add to the morals that these stories impart. Chandamama’s USP was that it also had mythological stories that piqued my interest as a kid!
Magic Pot
Magic Pot magazines maintained the perfect balance between stories and activities! With activities like connecting the dots, colouring and even drawing, Magic Pot books were my perfect pass time! Also, they had great stories that kept me hooked for hours as a kid!

Chacha Chaudhary
Your childhood was incomplete if you did not read Chacha Chaudhary! Yaar, these comics were super hilarious and a fun way to pass time, especially during the summer vacations! Also, these comics were massively loved by both children and elders!
I thank my parents for introducing me to these books early in life that have inculcated the habit of reading in me growing up! And now I realise how important reading is. This Children’s Day, you can choose to celebrate by buying these books and reading them or gifting them to your young kids because books are, hands down, the best gift!
