Aaliyah Kashyap Got Hate For Discussing Sex, Drugs, Pregnancy With Dad Anurag Kashyap On Her Vlog. Why Though?

Aaliyah Kashyap FAther Anurag Kashyap

You might think I am being very linear about a convoluted problem, but I think a lot of our country’s problems could be solved with proper sex education. From lower crime rates to more female participation in the labour force because women aren’t afraid anymore to step out, and consequently more economic growth, it really could be a domino effect. Alas, the subject is so taboo that not only do people want to avoid it in their own conversations, but they also want to shame anyone who tries to do things differently. Take Aaliyah Kashyap, daughter of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, for example, who through her YouTube vlogs tried to normalise talking to parents about topics like sex, pregnancy and drugs.

However, people in our society just can’t live and let live, or let someone do something good without interrupting with their trolling and vishesh tippanis. And so, they went ahead and trolled Aaliyah Kashyap for being so brazen. Sigh.

Last month, the content creator shared a vlog on her YouTube channel where she and dad Anurag Kashyap were tackling some fan questions. Amongst the topics discussed were Anurag’s views on premarital sex, and how he would react if his daughter told him she had had sex, or what pregnant. They even talked about drugs, where she asked her father if “weed was acceptable”.

In another Zoom session, Hindustan Times reports that Aaliyah Kashyap revealed the hate she got on that video, for discussing such topics so openly with her father.

“I have gotten a lot of messages of people talking about how it’s good to see such a progressive parent. People have questions and they are too afraid to ask their parents and so it’s nice for them to have a medium to get answers to their questions. But there’s also the other side – people that are a little more sheltered or reserved that aren’t very comfortable with it,” Aaliyah said.

Personally, I think it is great if children can so openly and fearlessly talk to their parents about these subjects. Especially when the alternative is that they seek this information from their equally clueless peers or the Internet, which might give them only half knowledge. In fact, more than children, I think this is an important lesson for parents too, that they should encourage such conversations with their of-age kids, or at least, let them know that it is a safe space for them to talk about such subjects, if and when the need arises.

I don’t understand why there needs to be trolling of any kind here, TBH. Sure, maybe you’re not comfortable talking to your parents or children this candidly. Why condemn someone else trying to adopt a different path? Just live and let live, peeps.
