8 Things You’ll Relate To If You Work The Weekend Shift

From Monday onwards, most of us just sit here and count days till Friday so we can get weekends off and make some fun plans but not everyone is that lucky. Since I work in the media industry I completely understand working weekends. While we’re lucky enough to not have to work every single weekend, not everyone is that lucky. Some people just do not have to luxury of having weekends off. While everyone is screaming TGIF, we know you’re feeling left out ‘coz you just don’t feel the joy kyunki weekend working hai! If you’re one of us who works on weekends because the job demands it, welcome to the gang and we feel your pain. It’s no fun to work when everyone else is chilling and making fun plans. Also, all of you blessed ones, don’t take weekends for granted. Here are some things you’ll relate to if you’re stuck in the office on Saturdays and Sundays.

1. Soona Soona

Working weekends remind me of that song from Krishna Cottage “soona soona, lamha lamha, meri rahein tanha tanha”. From the lift of your building to the roads to the office, every place is practically empty. Also, you’re probably the only one who has seen the office empty and worked in such a deserted place.

2. TGIF Isn’t A Thing

The second Friday comes everyone starts jumping up and down. And while everyone has this infectious energy as they plan parties, you don’t relate to it ‘coz you’re not excited about the weekend, thanks to work. As everyone preps to drink, you prep to hit the bed on time for work the next morning.

3. Toodles Social Life

Weekend working means you have to say goodbye to your social life because when you’re working, your friends, colleagues and everyone else is socialising. And when you have a week off, they’re working. Schedule match hi nahi hota kabhi and that’s why you hardly get to hang out with your close friends and loved ones.

4. Weekday Getaway

People go on weekend getaways but you go on weekday getaways or weekday vacays ALONE. Because no one has weekdays off except for you. On the bright side, you get all the weekday discounts and experience happy hours, unlike most others.

5. Raju Bhaiya….

Since you’ve been coming to the office on weekends all alone, you’re probably pally with the weekend guards and are on a first-name basis with them. They’re your only akelepan ke saathi!

6. Monday Sans Hangovers Are Worse

Everyone hates Mondays but you are indifferent ‘coz tum toh weekend mein bhi kaam kar rahe the. The only reason you dislike Mondays is that everyone else walks in to work with weekend stories and hangovers and you’re the only one without a story or a hangover for that matter.

7. Family Life, What?

Your parents regularly give you doses because “you’re always working, even on weekends”. Apart from all the theatrics you get to see over not spending time with your parents on the weekend, you also get an earful on a regular basis for missing out on family events, gatherings, functions, parties and get-togethers.

8. Social Media Gives You FOMO

Scrolling through social media is a hell of a different kind. While you’re stuck at work, everyone else is posting some crazy party stories, pictures and videos as they unwind during the weekend.
