Unilever Recalls Dry Shampoos In US And Canada Over Cancer Risk. Here’s A List Of All Brands Under the FMCG Giant!

We girls are very particular about the kind of products we use on our hair or skin. Especially with so much dust and pollution around, hair damage is an issue that we all face. Because of this, we use more products, although there is awareness about the fact that we should avoid using products with heavy chemicals, and bend more towards organic ones. But the truth is that these organic products are quite expensive and most of us hardly go for them and instead choose the normal ones. But very alarming news about the famous brand Unilever recalling all its dry shampoos from the USA, and Canadian markets is making people realise the extent to which companies ignore the health of their customers while making products.

Unilever is a famous UK-based company that deals in making products for beauty, personal care, and nutrition. Some of the very famous brands under this company that I am sure you will be aware of are- Dove, Sunsilk, Rexona, Lifebuoy, Magnum ice-creams, Horlicks, etc. Now HUL, that’s an abbreviation for Hindustan Unilever Limited is an Indian subsidiary of Unilever that was set up in 1931. Now some well-known brands under the HUL are- Dove, Elle 18, Glow and Lovely, Clinic Plus, Dermalogica, etc. HUL deals with the workings of all its consumer products in India and is one of the largest FMCG giants in the country.

The brand Unilever is currently in the news because they have recalled their dry shampoos from the US and Canada markets, and all of them which were manufactured before October 2021. What makes this news scarier is the fact that these products have been recalled, and basically have been asked to return because they have Benzene, a chemical causing cancer in them, that too in large quantities. As per a report by Bloomberg, the brands whose aerosol dry shampoos have been recalled include Dove, Nexxus, Bed Head by Tigi and Tresemme. The details about this were put up by the Food and Drug Administration on their official website. However, there is no official data or statement by Unilever regarding the Benzene levels in these products, which BTW has been termed to be even life-threatening if exposed to on a daily basis.

Now even though, these products are not sold in India, this news should equally be an eye-opener for us too. We are so much dependent on these unnatural products that the concern about our health does not even cross our minds. In recent times, there are many famous brands that are being pulled out for using high doses of chemicals in their beauty products and we should definitely make ourselves aware of it. Read the ingredients first before purchasing them, and also gain some knowledge about how should we pick the products we use on our hair and skin. We got to be very careful with this!
