The Make-Up Book We Can’t Wait To Get Our Hands On

If you’re big on make-up, there’s no way you could have missed watching one of Lisa Eldridge’s beauty tutorials online. The British make-up guru and YouTube star has been a fashion industry darling for two decades now, having worked with some of the biggest celebrities, designers, fashion magazines and photographers across the globe. As the Global Creative Director of luxury beauty brand Lancôme, she’s a highly regarded make-up artist and also has a following of over 1.2 million fans for her online make-up tutorials.

It’s no surprise then that when an expert of her calibre decides to write a book on beauty, it has to be about more than just a series of how-tos and expert tips and tricks. Launched a little over a month ago, Eldridge’s book Face Paint: The Story Of Make Up is a fascinating narrative that traces the origins of how and why women started painting their faces. Working with museums, curators and researchers from Kings University, Eldridge provides a seriously well-researched tome on how women have used make-up to express and empower themselves over thousands of years. It’s also a pretty nifty guide on the history of modern cosmetics and the women who influenced the industry. Eldridge also touches upon some important questions towards the end of the book, discussing whether make-up is a feminist statement or whether we’re confining ourselves to male ideals of beauty. Throughout the book you’ll find quotes by writers, artists and actresses on make-up, as well as beautiful photographs of women (including our very own Meena Kumari!) who Lisa finds truly inspiring.

This is 60,000 words full of fascinating insights and stories that will never let you look at make-up in the same light again!
