Exclusive: Celeb MUA Namrata Soni Wants Celebrities To Stop Fearing The Red Lipstick, “It’s Incredibly Elegant”
In an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly, Namrata Soni shared that she often hears people say red lipstick is too bold!

Celebrity makeup artist Namrata Soni has worked with some of Bollywood’s biggest stars, from Sonam Kapoor to Rani Mukerji, creating looks that have wowed fans for years. But there’s one makeup myth that still surprises her: many Indian celebrities are still scared to wear red lipstick. In an exclusive nterview with Hauterrfly, Namrata Soni shared that she often hears people say red lipstick is “too bold” or “only for dramatic scenes.” Some even believe it doesn’t suit Indian skin tones. “That’s simply not true,” Namrata said. “The right red shade can actually look very elegant and timeless on Indian skin.”
Namara Soni Loves A Red Lipstick
According to her, it’s all about choosing the right undertone. For example, if you have warm skin, a red with orange or brick tones works great. If your skin is cool-toned, go for deeper reds with blue or berry undertones. Red lipstick doesn’t have to be loud. It can be soft, classy, and make you feel confident, even without any other makeup on.
And there’s an interesting theory behind why red lipstick has such a strong effect, it’s called the Red Lip Theory.
So, what is the red lip theory?
The red lip theory says that red lipstick grabs attention more than any other colour. That’s because red has the longest wavelength in the visible color spectrum. Our brains are naturally drawn to it. So, when someone wears red lipstick, people instantly focus on their lips. This can be really helpful. If you’re having a bad skin day or you’re tired, a red lip can pull attention away from those things. It makes you look fresh, put-together, and confident, all in just a few seconds. You don’t need heavy foundation or eye makeup. Just the red lipstick does the trick.
Even history supports this idea, red lips have been seen as a symbol of power and beauty for centuries, worn by queens, performers, and fashion icons.
