Is Your Pesky Acne Not Going Away? Dermatologist Suggests What You Should Avoid
If you google remedies for acne, you will find a lot of hacks and tips to get rid of them. And for many of us, acne ends up being a major source of insecurities while growing up. We all must have tried all the DIY facemasks growing up to get the clear, glowing skin which has been advertised to us all our lives. While many of these beauty standards are unrealistic, having acne-free skin isn’t particularly out of reach. To help us achieve that, we reached out to Dr Sushma Yadav who is a dermatologist, cosmetologist, hair transplant surgeon and founder of Skinology Centre located in Bangalore. Here are some of the tips she gave us:
1. Using products with too much fragrance
While the idea of fragrances in our products sounds nice, it might be the cause of your acne. Dr Yadav says that fragrances, “irritate the skin so stay away from them.”

2. Miracle treatments
The dermatologist says that there is no miracle treatment for getting rid of acne. She said that “consistency and discipline” will help you achieve your skincare goals.
3. Not using a moisturiser
People with oily skin might believe that skipping moisturiser will make your skin less oily but that is completely wrong. Dr Yadav added, “using a gentle moisturiser is soothing for your skin and reduces inflammation.”

4. Applying products that burn your skin
Remember that whole phase when everyone was applying lemon to your skin? Yeah, no. Not a good idea. Dr Yadav said that “such products can only irritate your skin and make your skin condition worse. Use gentle and soothing skincare products prescribed by your dermatologist.”
5. Not visiting your dermatologist/ self treating yourself at home
While DIY isn’t the worse thing to do when it comes to skincare this can lead to severe catastrophe. Please do seek a dermatologist if your acne persists. Dr Yadav suggested that you, “always speak to your dermatologist before experimenting on your skin.”
