We’re in the month of September and the past 8 months have been all about a variety of beauty trends. While some trends we’ve loved, but there are also those that we just cannot stand. This year has also introduced us to some truly bizarre beauty trends that make us question our existence. Without further ado, allow me to take you through this exhaustive list of some truly unusual beauty trends, hacks and makeup looks of 2023 so far.
1. Shaved/Bleached Eyebrows
The beauty trend of shaved or bleached eyebrows is the one thing we hoped to leave behind when 2022 came to an end but it’s nowhere near over. Remember when Uorfi Javed bleached her brows a few months ago?
2. Food/Beverage Inspired Beauty Trends
2023 has been full of food-inspired makeup trends like vanilla girl makeup, latte makeup, tomato girl makeup, strawberry makeup, strawberry latte makeup and whatnot. Seriously, it’s not funny anymore. Especially with butterscotch and blueberry milk nail trends coming our way as well. Can we please just stop it already?

3. Tantouring
This beauty trend is all about using a self-tanner instead of your usual bronzer and contour to sculpt your face and get a tan that gives you a chiselled face for a few days. It may be long-lasting but it’s also a tad bit unnecessary.
4. Unapproachable Makeup
This beauty trend is the new way to scare men away by overdoing makeup and creating a dramatic makeup look that makes you look so good (or so bad) that it makes you seem unapproachable to men. This makeup look is all about going all out with your makeup to look so attractive that it makes men feel intimidated or just gives off a very Wednesday Addams vibe.
5. Henna Contour
Internet is clearly obsessed with contouring so much that they’ve now decided to use henna to get a long-lasting contour, but ew! No, why?
6. Chilly Flakes Lip Gloss
This lip-plumping hack just blew our minds away. In a viral video, an influencer mixed chilly flakes with lip gloss and applied it to her lips for more voluminous lips and we’re not ready to do this!
7. Face Taping
Face taping aka wrinkle taping is the new social media trend which involves taping your skin overnight to make it look firm and smoothen wrinkles (at least temporarily) but it’s not as much fun when the adhesive from the tape starts damaging your skin or the taping further worsens your skin and makes it sag and wrinkle more.

8. Beer Tanning
As if sunburn blush and frothing foundation weren’t bad enough, 2023 has introduced the world to the new beer tanning trend. To follow this trend, people are lathering their skin with beer before going sunbathing to get a deeper tan. Firstly, that’s not how tanning works and secondly, beer tanning does more harm than good. The harsh UV rays damage the skin in the long run.
9. Period Blood Facial
In case you still haven’t understood it, this facial involves using period blood to do an at-home facial or make a DIY face mask. As a woman, I’m used to period blood but no, I’m not putting blood on my face. No way!
10. Crying Girl Makeup
This trend went viral at the end of 2022 and continues to top the social media charts till the beginning of 2023. And no, this trend isn’t just about creating a makeup look with naturally flushed skin like it happens when you cry. This makeup look creates an overall sad girl makeup look with red eyes and whatnot.
11. Duck Nails
This nightmarish Y2K nail trend has made its comeback this year. This nail trend usually involves your nails being shaped like that of a duck’s foot. I mean…really?
12. Lip Wings
Move over winged eyeliner, 2023 is all about winged lips and while I’m a fan of the lip liners, the winged lips is just going too far with it. This trend is all about giving your lips shape and a slight lift by using a lip liner to make a tiny upward wing. Erm, no. Just no!
13. Lube For Hairstyling
In 2022, we came across lube being used to curl hair and the trend spilled into 2023 with the viral TikTok hack of using lube to create the trending wet girl hairstyle. No thanks to Kim Kardashian. Can we please use lube for the things it’s meant to be used for instead of applying it to our hair? I mean, at this point we’ve used lube as a primer too.

14. Manchester Girl Makeup
This makeup trend is all about going all out with your makeup and overdoing the foundation, contour and over-dramatic eyes with fake lashes and a nude lip created with concealer or foundation. This one is a hard no!
15. Scandinavian Hairline
This face-framing hair colouring trend is all about bleaching the hair closer to your hairline and getting a bright hair colour that makes your face pop but guess what? This one just isn’t meant for the Indian skin. Bright hair colours don’t look very flattering on the Indian skin.
16. Coquette Makeup
While this makeup trend screams Bridgerton with a Regency-era vibe but the reason why I’m not a fan of this makeup trend is the name. The word coquette refers to a flirtatious woman. As per the Britannica Dictionary, the word refers to a woman who likes to gain the attention of men but isn’t serious about them. Do we need a beauty trend with a sexist problematic name like that? Nah, not at all!
17. Toothpaste Lip Plumping
As if using erection cream and chilly flakes for lip plumping wasn’t bad enough, this latest beauty trend has social media users using toothpaste to get voluminous lips and we’re not very happy about this one. There’s a reason why toothpaste is not used for topical application on the skin and is called TOOTHpaste!
18. Laminated Brows
Getting all the hair in our eyebrows straight doesn’t have to be all about using a brush or a brow pencil. This new trend has people getting brow lamination which uses chemicals to temporarily smoothen the eyebrows and make them look brushed. It’s basically like a perm but for your brows and it’s all rainbows and unicorns until the treatment damages your brow hair and weakens them.
19. Teeth Filing
This is yet another scary and dangerous TikTok trend where internet users are using a nail filer to literally file or shave their teeth and there’s no going back from doing something like that. It’s not like your teeth are going to grow back again.

20. Mole Scraping
Many social media users have been trying to remove the moles on their skin by scraping it off or using random creams and products they find online. This isn’t something we must be DIYing because you don’t want to do irreversible damage to your skin.
While it’s okay to follow Beauty trend that we see online, not every trend is worth trying!
