In Season 2 Of Sacred Games, Gaitonde Takes A Backseat. The Women Are Going To Be “Bhagwan”

As much as I hate to admit it, I would be lying if I said that I am not addicted to the Netflix and chill culture as much as the next door millennial. With interesting and intense story lines, drama and documentaries popping up on your Netflix account every day and I often end up dealing with the dilemma of ‘what to watch on a Saturday night’ because I can’t decide on one thing. Especially with shows like Sacred Games that have had us hooked since the very first episode of the first season aired last year.

Leaving us at a very cruel cliff-hanger and at the edge of our seats with the last episode, the first season ended close to the end of the 25 days. Ganesh Gaitonde, the crime overlord of the show, has given this deadline to policeman Sartaj played by Saif Ali Khan to save his city. Now, having finished watching the first season within the first few days of its release, we spent the last year anticipating for what was going to happen next.  And it seems like we finally have an inkling.

The second season of Sacred Games, that is scheduled to drop in on Netflix on 15th August, will have a bunch of new and exciting characters, and we are glad that most of them are going to be strong female characters, intensifying the story even more. In an interview with Hindustan Times, actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Surveen Chawla, Elnaaz Norouzi and Amruta Subhash, all of whom playing lead roles, revealed how the storyline that was earlier about Gaitonde’s rendition of  his ‘teen baap‘, will now be seen shifting to the women in the script.

From having Surveen Chawla, Kalki Koechlin, Sobhita Dhulipala, Harshita Gaur and more new faces added, it is safe to say that the women in season 2 will be central to the story, alongside Gaitonde. And honestly, we love it. The cast revealed how this season was more about Gaitonde’s vulnerabilities and how the women in and around his life influence his decisions. They also talk about how the second season would be more provocative than the previous one and we have the women in the cast taking away credit for that amped up storyline.

Literally just a day away from release, we can’t wait to see how the second season pans out. From Kukoo, played by Kubra Sait being the highlight of season one, and now a pool of talented actresses emerging, we are glad that Anurag Kashyap did not use female characters just as a way of adding some song and dance glamour. Rest assured, we all know how we’re going to spend our independence holiday now!
