Anushka Sharma Is On Fortune India’s Most Powerful Women List And We Can’t Help But Feel Like She is A Misfit

A cold drink on a hot summer day, forehead kisses, a cozy sweatshirt and finishing a project before time are some of the best feelings in the world. They make you feel all light, breezy and bursting with happiness. But do you know what trumps all those? Getting recognised for your body of work after all the struggles, setbacks and all the slogging. The same feeling that we are sure is bursting through Anushka Sharma right now. She has accomplished something that women all over the country only dream of and though we are immensely proud of her for it, isn’t there someone more suitable for that position?

On Sunday, Fortune India’s top 50 list of Most Powerful Women of 2019 released, and we saw a name on it that struck a chord. Ranking 39th was Anushka for all her contribution to the entertainment industry. Not only was she the only Bollywood actress to be featured but she was also the youngest person on that list. While that’s an amazing accomplishment in itself, we can’t help but wonder if she was the right choice for it.

The description given for her basically says she was awarded this position for of course the movies she has done and her production house Clean Slate Films which she founded when she was 25 that has produced three small-budget movies- NH10, Phillauri, and Pari. Oh, and for being the face of her own fashion brand, Nush and multiple other brands Nivea, Elle 18 and Lavie. But doesn’t that describe every other actress in Bollywood?

Hear us out. We say she’s a misfit here because the other names are stalwarts in their industry. At number one we have Zia Mody the co-founder of AZB & partners, one of the biggest law firms in the country. Zia represented the RBI in a constitutional change about the Insolvency and Bankrupcy code, she was also responsible for the first hostile takeover in the IT sector. The woman that stood at number two of the most powerful women in 2019 is the MD of the pharma company, Biocon which served close to two million people in 2019 alone. At number five, is Zarin Daruwala the CEO of Standard Chartered Bank. Amongst exceptional women like these, is Anushka the correct candidate to be placed on that list?

The list also features Ekta Kapoor at the 22nd place for her digital platform venture Alt Balaji, Anita Dongre at the 25th place for the growth of her brand House of Anita Dongre and famed designer Ritu Kumar for homeware-inspired line which growing at an great rate.

We aren’t saying Anushka Sharma hasn’t done enough to earn her spot but amongst women who are experts their respective fields, isn’t she kind of a misfit?
