An All-Woman Pilot Team Will Be Flying Over The North Pole On The World’s Longest Air Route. They’re Making History

In every field, women are setting new records and smashing the glass ceiling. Now, no one can say that a woman can’t do everything because there is more than enough proof that we can. After decades of oppression and being confined to the kitchen, women are finally spreading their wings and flying. Literally in the case of this all-woman team of pilots who are going to be flying over the North Pole on the world’s longest air route. They will make history by being the first all-woman team to fly this route. If you listen carefully, you might be able to hear the glass shatter.

On 9th January, Air India’s all-woman pilot team will be flying over the North Pole on their way to Bengaluru from San Francisco. This is the world’s longest air route covering nearly 16,000 km. Although Air India pilots have flown this polar route before, this is the first time an all-woman pilot team will be undertaking this journey.

An Air India official said, “Flying through the North Pole is very challenging and airline companies send their best and experienced pilots on this route. This time Air India has given responsibilities to a woman captain for the journey from San Fransico to Bengaluru via polar route.”

AI Captain Zoya Agarwal, who will be commanding the flight is the youngest commander in the world on Boeing 777.  While talking about this journey she said that she felt privileged and humbled at this opportunity. She also encouraged women to believe in themselves despite societal pressures.

She said, “Most people in the world will not see the North Pole or even its map in their lifetime. I feel truly feel privileged and humbled by the trust posed in me by the civil aviation ministry and our flag carrier. It is a golden opportunity to command a Boeing 777 inaugural SFO-BLR, one of the world’s longest flight over the North Pole.”

Further adding, “This is the first time an all-women pilots team will fly over the North Pole and create a history of sorts. It’s indeed a dream come true for any professional pilot. The thrill of actually realising that you will be passing the North pole where the compass will flip 180 degrees…something which is fascinating indeed.”

This is so inspiring. Women are constantly setting new records and we are loving it!
