Deepika Padukone’s Mental Health Initiative Is Going Global. We Love That She’s Talking About This Taboo Topic
Deepika Padukone is one of the hardest working actresses in Bollywood right now. With movies like Chhapaak and 83 in her kitty, the actress manages to do it all. While her glamorous side is always a delight to witness, it is the philanthropic side that we keep seeking out. The actress is vocal about many issues in the country and uses her celebrity status to shed light on topics that have been taboo till now. In fact, when she talked about her battle with depression, it was entirely freeing for a lot of people – what with the sting taken away from a topic this sensitive. And clearly, her initiative is gathering momentum, and shedding light on an issue that needs the limelight.

Yesterday, Deepika was invited by fashion icon Anna Wintour to speak at The Youth Anxiety Center – New York Presbyterian.
Deepika dedicated her talk to her own struggles with clinical depression and the shame that might come with it. She vowed to lend a helping hand to the organisations fighting the mental health stigma, hoping to take her message to a global level.
Deepika kept her style minimal yet powerful for the event. She chose Alberta Ferretti separates paired with statement shoulder dusters in gold. The fringed blazer made her look like a million bucks, considering its price tag of approximately Rs 1,21,000, we aren’t surprised either (*wink*)! That’s literally the cost of out entire wardrobe, I think. Or wait, this is probably more than that.
Deepika’s presence at the event has got us excited for another reason as well. Deepika hung out with supermodel Kendall Jenner and honestly, that is too much star power in one picture. We love their contrasting outfits playing off each other, they are both in their element! Also, how much gorgeous-ness is this?
We are always glad when Deepika opens up about her personal struggles. Celebrity culture can sometimes get too overwhelming and it’s refreshing when influential people have relatable stories. More power to Deepika for trying to influence change, it is much needed!
