Indian Women Who Took The World By Storm In 2017

From being crowned Miss World 2017 to taking Hollywood by a storm, Indian women are making a mark not only in India papers but all over the world.

These women are not only shutting the mouths of patriarchs, but also inspiring girls out there to be bold and follow their dreams, irrespective of their backgrounds. Their brazen personalities are to be lauded, appreciated, and reckoned with.

Here’s a list of Indian women from different industries who are being noticed for their work all over the world.

1. Chanda Kochhar

Chanda Kochhar is the Managing Director and CEO of ICICI bank and is a known name in the Indian household. She is widely known for shaping retail banking in India. She strongly believes that India needs more women in key positions in different industries, and we second her on this. This year, she was #32 on the 14th edition of ‘World’s Most Powerful Women’ list by Forbes. She is truly an inspiration to many of us.

2. Priyanka Chopra

There’s no doubt that PC is the most successful Bollywood actress. From winning the title of Miss World back in 2000 and acting in over 40 movies, the sky is the limit for this diva. She is the first Indian woman to play a lead in an American TV series, and recently made her Hollywood debut with Baywatch, too. Her feature on the Forbes list this year is well deserved, and we’re sure it’s just the beginning for her. Oh, did we mention she is also a global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador? What can this woman not do?

3. Mithali Raj

Sports is still not accepted as a profession by many Indian families, but when a woman starts playing the most-loved sport of the country, she’s bound to be in the spotlight. Mithali Raj is the Captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket team, and has led the team to the World Cup finals in the years 2005 and 2017. She’s also the first captain (men or women) to do so, twice. Soon, we’ll get to watch a feature film based on her life, which we hope inspires more people to take up sports as a career.

4. Manushi Chillar

After winning Femina Miss India 2017, Manushi Chillar earned the right to represent India in Miss World pageant, which she won. Chhillar chose Project Shakti for her ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ contest, which concentrates on spreading awareness about menstrual hygiene. Recently, she was announced as the Brand Ambassador for Anaemia-Free Haryana, and spoke at the 2017 Global Entrepreneurship Summit held in Hyderabad, as well.

5. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw

Another Indian businesswoman to make the ‘World’s Most Powerful Women’ list by Forbes is Biocon Ltd.’s founder-chair, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw. A self-made woman, she gives away half of her income as a part of the ‘Giving Pledge’. Biocon is also Asia’s largest insulin producer and focuses on producing generics to treat diabetes, auto-immune diseases, and cancer.

7. Shobana Bhartia

Editorial Director and Chairperson of Hindustan Times, Shobhana Bhartia is #92 on Forbes’ list this year. She is one of the most powerful women in the Indian media industry. Bhartia is also the first female chief executive of a leading newspaper. More power to you!

8. Roshni Nadar Malhotra

At the age of 28, she became the Executive Director of HCL Corporation. She is responsible for all the strategic decisions and CSR activities of the organisation. This young businesswoman is also a spokesperson for children’s empowerment, making sure that children all over the country get access to education through Shiv Nadar Foundation. She is #57 on Forbes’ list this year.
