What Is The Controversy Around Adah Sharma Starrer The Kerala Story And Its Poster?

Adah Sharma's The Kerala Story, scheduled to release on May 5, revolves around love jihad and how many women in Kerala were forced into religious conversion.

The film reportedly claims that about 32,000 women were forced to convert to Islam and several were recurited and taken to Syria when ISIS was in power.

A peition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the release of the film calling it hate speech and propaganda. But the Top Court refused to entertain the plea.

The film is being opposed claiming that the statistic quoted by the film are inaccurate and lack evidence whereas the makers claim that it's based on true events.

The producer of The Kerala Story claimed that he has the evidence to back the data as the director conducted a 4-years long research for the film.

As per Indian government data, over the years about 100-200 Indians have joined ISIS and not more. US Department of State 2020 report states that only 66 Indian joined ISIS.

Observer Reseach Foundation 2019 report states 60 to 70 Indians from Kerala joined ISIS between 2014 and 2018.

Amid the controversy, the makers altered the description of the trailer of the film from 'story of 32,000 women ' to 'true story of 3 girls from Kerala'.

Shashi Tharoor has called the film a "misrepresentation" of reality.
