After over 5 years as New Zealand PM, Jacinda Ardern announced that she is stepping down from her position and won't be contesting the general elections this year.
Jacinda took over as New Zealand PM in 2017 after New Zealand First formed a coalition with Labour Party in October that year.
1. During her first term from 2017 to 2020, Jacinda increased paid parental leave to 26 weeks as well as the monetary aid provided for middle and low income families with kids.
2. In an effort to reduce child poverty, free mentural hygiene products policy was put in place for schools among other things.
3. In 2018 she attended the UN General Assembly meeting with her kid. She was the first woman head of a government to normalise mothers being leaders.
4. Jacinda proved that she's a true leader with the way she handled the Covid-19 crisis in the country. This also contributed to Labour Party's landslide victory in 2020 elections.
5. Her leadership and Covid-19 vaccination programme during the second wave of coronvirus became a world-leading example.
6. Not only did she tighten the gun laws in New Zealand but she also advocated for stricted gun laws in the US.
7. She did not shy away from schooling a journalist for his misogynistic question about her bond with Finland PM Sanna Marin.
