For months, social media was flooded with reels that focused on Zohran Mamdani. From his impactful and witty statements to thirst traps, many people rooted for him during the elections. That was clearly visible as this 34-year-old democrat made history by becoming New York City’s first muslim and first south asian mayor, not just that! He is the youngest mayor to be elected since 1892. People who dressed up as him during Halloween must be very proud! And so are we!
Know Zohran Mamdani’s Life Story!
If you’re living under a rock, you should know that Zohran Mamdani is the son of acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair (known for Mississippi Masala and Monsoon Wedding) and author, political commentator and Columbia University professor, Mahmood Mamdani. It’s interesting to know that he was actually born in Kampala, Uganda and moved to New York when he was seven. It was not until 2018 that he officially became a United States citizen.

He graduated from Bronx High School of Science and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College in Africana studies. Before putting his foot into politics, the newly elected mayor worked as a housing counsellor. Zohran was elected to the New York State Assembly in 2021, representing District 36 in Queens.

In New York City’s mayoral elections, Zohran Mamdani impressively beat Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa and ex-governor Andrew Cuomo.
