Wrestlers Protests: Vinesh Phogat Says, “I Had To Suffer Silently For Years Due To WFI Chief”

It is a shameful moment for India on a global level as the world is watching how our government is sitting silently while our award-winning wrestlers are fighting for justice. Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia have been protesting for several months against the Wrestling Federation of India chief (WFI), Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, and are demanding that he be arrested. They have alleged that he has sexually harassed several female players and coaches. Among the complainants is a minor as well. After so many months of protesting, Vinesh Phogat has broken her silence and shared that she has suffered, too.

Talking to Indian Express, Vinesh Phogat has shared her ordeal and how she has had to suffer over the years due to WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. She said that when she along with the other wrestlers decided to stage protests at Jantar Mantar in January, they all thought that they will be served justice within a couple of days. Vinesh further questioned how many times will the victims have to speak up till they are served justice.

The Commonwealth Games medal winner also shared her struggle and said that she has had to suffer silently for many years because of Sharan Singh and she had no option but to endure it all. But Phogat is determined to have Sharan Singh arrested no matter what. She said that she and the protesting wrestlers will not be leaving Jantar Mantar until the WFI chief has been arrested.

Vinesh Phogat further said that she has shed tears and the last couple of months have been stressful as well and is aware that this is going to be a long battle ahead. Recently, the WFI chief said that he is ready to take a narco test. But his condition is that he wants Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia to take this test as well.

The inaction on the government’s part proves that it is trying to protect Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, and has zero interest in serving justice to the protesting wrestlers.
