It’s really important to acknowledge every member’s contribution in a team, and the teamwork that made a dream come true. Recently, India’s women’s cricket team won the first World Cup by defeating South Africa. Technically, the 15-member team is awarded the medals; however, something special happened this time. Pratika Rawal, who could unfortunately not play the last two games of the tournament, still received her much-deserved medal. Here’s how!
What Happened?
Pratika Rawal could not play the last two matches of the World Cup due to an injury. Although, she displayed an exceptional performance throughout the series, but she had to opt out before the semi-finale due to an injury. She was replaced by Shefali Verma who also won the player of the match. Pratika could not play the semi-finals against Australia and finals against South Africa. While the 15-player team received their medals, Pratika Rawal could not. Although, later ICC Chairperson Jay Shah made sure that some rules were tweaked. This led to Pratika Rawal to receiving her medal for the tournament. As per an interview with CNN News18, the cricketer revealed that Jay Shah had texted their manager to make sure that this would be made possible.
The cricketer also said that she was moved by this gesture and almost broke down to tears, despite being someone who cries a lot.

For the unversed, the cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur scripted history with this win by bringing home the World Cup trophy for the first time.
India celebrated this win, and India’s PM Narendra Modi also honoured the team.
