Woman Accuses Hospital Of Negligence After Indian-Origin Husband Passes Away In Canada

In a sad news peice today, a video of an Indian origin woman, Niharika Sreekumar, has been going viral in which she accused a Canadian hospital of negligence that allegedly resulted in her husband, Prashant Sreekumar’s (44) death. In the tragic video, she detailed her accusations against the hospital, which has sparked conversation among netizens. Read ahead to know more about the situation.

Woman Accuses Hospital Of Negligence After Husband’s Death

In the viral video, Niharika Sreekumar can be seen standing beside her husband, Prashant Sreekumar’s body. She alleged that the untimely medical care and delay at Canada’s Grey Nuns Community Hospital resulted in her spouse’s death. She claimed that the hospital ‘killed’ her husband. Niharika stated that Prashant started to get acute chest pain on December 22 and was taken to the hospital by 12:20 pm on the same day. She alleged he was seated in the hospital’s triage area until 9 PM during which his chest pain was continually being reported. Furthermore, Niharika added that Prashant’s blood pressure kept rising and the last recorded reading was 210, which is abnormal for adults.

Niharika claimed that he was only given Tylenol and did not receive any further medical care from the staff. She stated that they were told chest pain wasn’t considered an emergency and they did not suspect any cardiac-related problem. Prashant was taken for treatment after more than 8 hour but sadly, he passed away soon after. She recalled that the staff tried to resuscitate him but wasn’t successful. His cause of death was an apparent cardiac arrest.

She claimed that the hospital staff failed Prashant at a critical time. Niharika also called out the security personnel, stating that when she asked about the delay in treatment, she was in turn told that she was being rude. Prashant’s father, Kumar Sreekumar addressed the Canadian media stating that his late son told the staff that his pain was 15 out of 10 multiple times. After conducting an electrocardiogram (ECG), the hospital staff allegedly told the family that there wasn’t anything concerning. They were then asked to wait. Kumar Sreekumar also stated that his son told him how unbearable the pain was.

Did The Hospital Respond?

For the unversed, the Covenant Health Network is responsible for operating the Grey Nuns Community Hospital. The organisation reportedly offered condolences to the family but has declined to give any statement on the matter. They have stated that the case is being reviewed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Prashant is survived by wife, Niharika Sreekumar and three children aged 14, 10 and 3.
