Why Is Mumbai Police Struggling To Get Custody Of Lawrence Bishnoi, Who Is Allegedly Involved In Baba Siddique’s Murder?
While Bishnoi remains imprisoned, his gang’s operations are managed by associates based overseas!

The Mumbai Crime Branch is facing significant obstacles in its efforts to gain custody of Lawrence Bishnoi, the notorious gangster currently detained in Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail. Despite his name repeatedly surfacing in various high-profile crimes, the police have been unable to bring him to Mumbai for interrogation. Bishnoi, who was previously linked to an attack on Salman Khan’s residence earlier this year, has again become the focus of investigation following the recent murder of former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique.
Bishnoi Gang And Baba Siddique Death
The Bishnoi gang, which has claimed responsibility for Siddique’s killing, remains a primary target for the Mumbai Police. Shooters arrested in connection with the incident have also confessed their affiliation with the Bishnoi gang, further solidifying this link. However, retrieving Bishnoi from Sabarmati Jail has proven difficult due to an official order issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
This order, enacted under Section 268 (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), restricts the transfer of certain high-profile prisoners when their movement could potentially pose a threat to law and order. Originally set to last until August 2024, reports indicate that the order has been extended, continuing to block any transfer requests made by Mumbai Police for Bishnoi’s custody.
Lawrence Bishnoi was transferred to Sabarmati Central Jail from Delhi’s Tihar Jail in August 2023 due to his involvement in a cross-border drug smuggling case. A hardened criminal, Bishnoi faces numerous charges and has been linked to various violent incidents, including the 2022 killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.
While Bishnoi remains imprisoned, his gang’s operations are managed by associates based overseas his brother Anmol Bishnoi, along with Goldy Brar and Rohit Godar. The National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) chargesheet indicates that the Bishnoi syndicate has grown rapidly, reminiscent of the network built by Dawood Ibrahim in the 1990s. In the ongoing investigation into Siddique’s murder, two arrested suspects have confirmed their association with Bishnoi’s gang. Additionally, a social media post by a gang member claimed responsibility for the killing, citing Siddique’s close connection with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan as the motive. The post further warned that any individual or group aiding Salman Khan or the Dawood gang would face consequences. Authorities are currently verifying the authenticity of this message.

Salman Khan has been a recurring target for the Bishnoi gang, reportedly due to his involvement in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. The Bishnoi community considers the blackbuck sacred, and the gang has repeatedly threatened Khan over the years, including a shooting incident outside his Mumbai home in April. With ongoing threats and a history of violent actions, the Mumbai Police continue their investigation, despite the hurdles in securing Bishnoi’s custody.
