A case that has taken the entire nation by surprise is the murder of tourist Raja Raghuvanshi. They found the husband, Raja, dead beneath the parking area of  Weisawdong Falls in East Khasi Hills. The wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, was found at a roadside dhaba along the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway last Saturday. Meghalaya police have taken Sonam under custody for the murder of her husband, and they have also arrested three men along with her.

Who Is Sonam Raghuvanshi

Sonam’s sudden appearance has raised a lot of questions and suspicions among the police. Sonam and her late husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, got married on 11 May 2025.

Sonam’s brother revealed that the marriage was arranged, and the couple was happy. There had been no fights between the couple before or after marriage. A week after the couple went missing, Raja’s decomposed body was found in a gorge with his throat slit, a gold ring, a chain and his wallet missing. Sonam, 24, was located at the Kashi Dhaba and was taken to Ghazipur’s Sadar Hospital for medical evaluation.

Police have stated that Sonam Raghuvanshi reportedly surrendered to killing her husband. They further said that she was also allegedly involved in an affair with Raj Kushwaha. Raj has also been under arrest.

Meghalaya police claimed that Sonam was the mastermind who orchestrated her husband’s murder. She allegedly hired three men, all of whom are now under arrest. The men were found in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Meghalaya’s DGP Idashisha Nongrang confirmed the news that Sonam had surrendered and announced that she will be facing legal action.
