As the shocking Meghalaya honeymoon murder case continues to unfold, social media has turned its spotlight on one unexpected figure, Shrasti Raghuvanshi, who identifies herself as the sister of the deceased, Raja Raghuvanshi. With over 394K followers on Instagram, Shrasti has been actively posting reels in the aftermath of her brother’s tragic death, some of which have now gone viral and not always for the reasons she may have hoped.
Who Is Shrashti Raghuvanshi?
The case has captured national attention since late May, when newlyweds Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, who had travelled from Indore to Meghalaya for their honeymoon, were reported missing. They had checked out from a homestay in the picturesque Nongriat village on May 23 but never returned. After days of intensive searching, Raja’s body was found in a gorge near the popular Weisawdong Falls on June 2, bearing signs of foul play. Although Shrasti being Raja’s sister has not been officially confirmed and is an assumption at this point.
Authorities later arrested Sonam, along with three others, in connection with the murder. The police revealed that Sonam had surrendered at a police station in Uttar Pradesh. The couple had married just days before the trip, on May 11.
While the gruesome nature of the crime sparked national outrage, the grief of Raja’s family quickly spilled onto social media. Shrasti began uploading videos ranging from joyful clips of her brother’s wedding rituals to emotional tributes demanding justice. But what began as mourning turned controversial as more videos surfaced, some accusatory, some promotional, and others simply celebratory in tone.
As soon as her viewers caught up with her reels they were quick to call her behaviour out. Many users labelled her content as tone-deaf, accusing her of using her brother’s tragic death as a means to gain followers and brand attention. A particular point of criticism was a promotional reel Shrasti posted for a mobile store in Indore, just a day before Raja’s body was found.
Shrasti’s social media is now under public scrutiny, with thousands searching for her account to make sense of what they perceive as conflicting emotions, grief and influencer hustle.
