The results for the West Bengal elections are finally out, and the BJP has won the state’s elections. Amid these election campaigns, Saayoni Ghosh took the forefront. She represented Mamata Banerjee’s All India Trinamool Congress. However, Saayoni had an established career in acting before she ventured into politics. Here’s what you need to know about her.
Who Is Saayoni Ghosh?
Saayoni Ghosh, an actor turned politician, has a strong presence on social media. She started her acting career with the serial Ichhe Dana. And then soon started her career in films with Notobor Notout. She did a small role in the film, but Saayoni later became one of the most notable faces in the Bengali film and television industry. She has worked in films like Kanamachi, Antaraal, Ekla Cholo, Amar Sahor, and one of her prominent works was the serial Proloy Asche.
Political Career
Saayoni Ghosh kickstarted her political career in 2021. She became a TMC candidate from the Asansol South constituency and ran for the WB Assembly Elections. She also served as the President for the youth wing of the Trinamool Congress. While she lost to the BJP in the 2021 elections, Saayoni Ghosh won the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency in the 2024 General Elections.

She recently made headlines for her comments during a podcast. In an interview with the UnPolitics podcast, Saayoni Ghosh commented on the opposition party’s campaign related to Jhaali Muri and eating fish in West Bengal. She stated that TMC is ‘not a jhalmuri party,’ and also added that such moves by the opposition party were only for optics. She is also known for her outspoken nature and also been the centre of many controversies during the years.
