In a surprise development that has sparked political and public curiosity, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Pinaki Misra have reportedly tied the knot in a private ceremony in Germany. The wedding, said to have taken place on May 3, remained under wraps until a few photographs surfaced online, including one showing Moitra wearing gold jewellery and smiling, reportedly taken after the ceremony. While the images, first reported by The Telegraph, have fueled speculation, neither Moitra nor Misra has confirmed or commented on the news. Their respective political parties, the TMC and BJD, have also remained silent, with insiders suggesting even senior leaders weren’t informed about the marriage.

According to reports, Pinaki Misra is an advocate of senior position in the Supreme Court of India. He has also previously represented Mahua Moitra in court during one of her recent legal battles. Pinaki Misra also has an academic background in law, having studied at Delhi University, and transitioned into politics in the mid-1990s. He then entered the Lok Sabha in 1996 from Odisha’s Puri constituency on a Congress ticket, defeating, prominent Union minister at the time. He later joined the BJD and has since won the Puri seat three consecutive times, in 2009, 2014, and 2019.
This is Mahua Moitra’s second marriage as she was previously married to Danish financier Lars Brorson. In recent years, her personal life was thrust into the spotlight following a legal dispute with her ex-partner, lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, a controversy that led to her suspension from Parliament in 2023.
