Who Is Khaby Lame? Viral Social Media Icon Deported From US After Visa Issue

You might remember Khaby Lame from TikTok, one of the most viral people on the internet with millions of followers. Recent reports reveal that he left the US on Tuesday, June 10, after being detained by immigration agents in LA for allegedly overstaying his visa. Khaby, who rose to fame during the pandemic, enjoys a massive following of 300 million followers across social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

Khaby Lame Leaves The US

A representative for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stated in a statement that the Senegalese-Italian influencer was arrested at Harry Reid International Airport on Friday but was permitted to depart the country without being deported. The ICE person said that Khaby arrived in the US on April 30 and apparently overstayed his visa. Though Associated Press shared that they sent a message seeking a comment but he hasn’t publicly spoken about the detainment yet.

His detention and voluntary departure from the United States coincide with President Donald Trump’s intensifying assault on immigration, which included raids in Los Angeles that provoked days of anti-ICE rallies, as the president tested the limits of his presidential authority. However, unlike many others, Khaby wasn’t deported, but was allowed the option of voluntary departure. This allows the people facing removal from the US to avoid the deportation order from their immigration report. This could prevent them from entering the US for up to a decade.
