Who Is Anaya?
Cricket has always been a constant in Anaya’s life. The child of former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar, Anaya recently gained attention after sharing her journey through hormonal transformation on social media. Assigned male at birth as Aryan, Anaya began Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) in 2023 and has been steadily embracing her new identity as a transgender woman.
Anaya, who is currently playing cricket in the United Kingdom, shared a video that provides insight into her difficult and emotional journey. The highly shared video features childhood photographs of Anaya posing with famous cricketers such as Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni, and her father, showing her transformation into a transgender lady who continues to pursue her love of cricket.

Anaya’s journey began with a passionate love of cricket, which she had from infancy. Watching her father represent and coach the Indian cricket team inspired her to follow in his footsteps. Cricket was more than a hobby; it was a dream and a future she had carefully planned. Her journey, however, took an unexpected turn as she began to transition into a transgender woman.
In an August 2023 Instagram post, Anaya discussed the revolutionary influence HRT has had on her life and cricket career. She defined cricket as her “love, ambition, and future,” but admitted that physical changes from HRT, such as decreased muscle mass and strength, have had a substantial influence on her athletic talents, making it difficult to compete at the same level.
