Vinesh Phogat Faints Shortly After Being Disqualified From Paris Olympics 2024 Finals, Gets Hospitalised

Shortly after being disqualified from the women’s 50kg Olympic wrestling final on Wednesday, August 7, in Paris, wrestler Vinesh Phogat was admitted to the hospital. Reportedly, the Olympian passed out from dehydration. When Vinesh Phogat weighed in on the second day of the competition, she was 150 grams overweight, and as a result, she was disqualified. She didn’t make it to the weigh-in because she was preparing for the Olympic gold medal match.

Vinesh Phogat Admitted To Hospital

At the moment, Vinesh Phogat is stable and resting in the Olympic Village polyclinic. Regretfully, the Indian contingent has no avenue of appeal for this decision. The wrestler, her trainers, and the support team did everything they could to help her, even going to drastic lengths to try to draw blood and cut her hair, but they were unable to get the desired outcome.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi even spoke with IOA president PT Usha to receive the information quickly and discuss the options available to India after Phogat’s setback. According to the rules of UWW, an athlete will be dismissed from the tournament and ranked last without a rank if they fail to show up for the weigh-in. She is the first woman to get disqualified from the finals for not making the weight restrictions. On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, she ensured that India would receive a medal in the Olympic wrestling competition by being the first Indian woman wrestler to make it to the finals, defeating Yusneylis Guzman of Cuba 5-0.
