In the video doing rounds of the internet, Dalai Lama can be seen kissing a young boy who quite evidently looks uncomfortable doing that. But that was not it, the religious leader also asked the boy to “Suck” his tongue. The video came down as a shock for everyone since Dalai Lama is a respected personality and also a Nobel Prize winner.

After the video was circulated on social media, the leader received severe criticism. However, Twitter users do not feel that a simple apology is enough for the disgusting act. The users were more annoyed by the leader referring to the whole act as merely being playful. Many people also called a “Pedophile” after the video went viral. The users called it unacceptable behaviour and also criticised the leader for being referred to as “His Holiness”. They also called him out for not addressing the “Suck my tongue” part in his apology, and conveniently ignoring that even happened. Here are some of the Twitter reactions to it.

The boy asked a hug. You asked the boy to suck your tounge. We all heard that. Why is it missing in your 'apology'.
And asking a boy to suck your tounge isnt 'playful' as you have written.
Do you the pain of how that small boy would be thinking about this ?

It pains me to say, but this warranted an apology. It’s imperative children are given a consistent message about what is acceptable behaviour with an adult & what is not. Muddying the waters leads to acceptance of abuse, particularly when the adult is revered. We must do better.

The video will make anyone feel angry and disgusted. In fact, many people also demanded strict action against the abusive gesture by the religious leader. It is more unfortunate that this was termed as a playful gesture in the apology note, because in no way did it feel the same to others!
