Who Is Alakshmi?
Alakshmi is the Goddess of misfortune, bad luck and bad vibes, basically, everything opposite to what Goddess Lakshmi brings to our homes. There are rituals for Alakshmi that are specially carried out on the night of Diwali. It is believed that Alakshmi is a shadow that comes along with Goddess Lakshmi, and there is a ritual to make her leave the house. This ritual is done on the night of Diwali just to make sure that the presence of Alakshmi does not affect anyone’s life.

There are some other names also that Goddess Alakshmi is known by and they are- Daridara, Kalahapriya, and Nirṛti. The symbol of poverty and bad luck is not what people desire on Diwali, and therefore, poojas take place in houses to bring positivity and prosperity.
Indians will be celebrating Diwali on October 31, this year and will be dressed in their best ethnic outfits. Many gifts and sweets are exchanged on this day and people burst crackers to make Diwali more fun. Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Ganesh is mandatory.
