The Last Of Us Season 2 Episode 3 Introduces Scars Or Seraphites; Here’s All You Need To Know About It

The third episode of The Last of Us Season 2 expanded the storyline with the introduction of a new group known as the Seraphites, also referred to as the Scars. Their appearance marks a significant development as the series moves further into the conflicts depicted in The Last of Us Part II video game. Approximately 20 minutes into the episode, viewers were shown a group of individuals traveling through the woods near Seattle. The men were identified by their shaved heads, cloaks bearing an unknown symbol, and prominent scars extending from the corners of their mouths.

Who Are The Scars In The Last Of Us Season 2?

This group was shown fleeing their home to escape ongoing conflict. Their movement through the area was short-lived, as their bodies were later discovered by Ellie and Dina during their journey toward Seattle. While the series has not officially named them, the depiction aligns closely with the Seraphites from the video game. The Seraphites are a religious faction that formed in Seattle after the outbreak of the Cordyceps infection. They follow the teachings of a figure known only as the Prophet, a woman who advocated for a rejection of modern technology and a return to nature. According to the game’s lore, the Prophet believed the pandemic was a punishment for humanity’s dependence on technology.

Initially a peaceful community, the Seraphites’ practices became increasingly extreme over time. Their members adopted a code of simplicity and discipline but eventually incorporated harsh and violent methods, including ritualistic scarification and strict enforcement of their beliefs. Their rejection of the “Old World” and technology set them apart from other survivor groups in the series.

In The Last of Us Part II, the Seraphites are engaged in an ongoing war with the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), also known as the Wolves. Following the WLF’s overthrow of FEDRA in Seattle, the two groups have been fighting for territorial control. The Seraphites’ conflict with the WLF becomes one of the central narrative threads in the game.

In the context of the show, the arrival of the Seraphites hints at upcoming confrontations and further world-building beyond the immediate revenge arc surrounding Ellie and Dina. As the story progresses, the Seraphites are expected to play a major role in the escalating violence between survivor factions in Seattle.

Episode 3 of The Last of Us Season 2 marks the beginning of this larger conflict, with future episodes likely to explore the Seraphites’ origins, ideology, and their impact on the main characters’ journey.
