The shocking death of 25-year-old national-level tennis player Radhika Yadav shook the country to its core. The incident, which occurred in Sector 57 in Gurugram on Thursday morning, exposed a line of shocking details after her father, Deepak Yadav, admitted to having shot her. As per the latest reports, the father admitted to killing his daughter under social pressure and his currently under police custody,

1) Killed By Father Because Of Social Pressure

One of the most shocking facts of the case is the reason behind the shooting. Deepak Yadav, in his confession, informed the police that he was mentally unsettled by taunts from villagers. He said that people had taunted him for relying on his daughter’s earnings and questioned her character as well. These remarks allegedly became too much for him over time, and he developed resentment and a feeling of dishonour that he claimed he could no longer bear.

2) The Murder Occurred On Her Mother’s Birthday

One of the very disturbing facts is the timing of the murder. On the morning of July 10, Radhika had stepped into the kitchen to make something special for her mother, Manju Yadav, for her birthday. It was during this moment, while she was cooking, that Deepak approached her from behind and shot her three times using his licensed .32 bore revolver. Only Deepak, Radhika, and Manju were present on the first floor of the house at the time. Manju, who was unwell and resting in her room, said she only realised something was wrong when she heard the gunshots.

3) No Prior Warning Signs

Kuldeep and his son Piyush, who reside on the ground floor of the house, came running upstairs after they heard the shots and found Radhika in the kitchen bleeding in a pool of blood. They got her to the nearest hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The police found the revolver on the drawing room table with five spent shells and one live cartridge. Forensic experts took fingerprints and other samples from the spot.

4) Not Closing Down The Academy

Regardless of repeatedly asking Radhika to close down her tennis academy, she kept it operating, something Deepak felt as a challenge. As per the FIR registered on a complaint from Radhika’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, there had been no earlier indication of Deepak plotting such a brutal crime.

Police have filed a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. Deepak Yadav is still in jail as investigations are on.
