Taliban Bans Women From Going To Male Doctors. But Won’t Let Women Study To Become Docs Also!

Every time there is news from Afghanistan, it is always about the Taliban banning women from doing the most common and humane thing. So far, the Taliban has made it compulsory for women to cover their bodies from head to toe, replaced them with their male counterparts from workplaces and banned women from attending universities. Each new restriction imposed on Afghani women is a huge blow to their basic human rights. And now, in what comes as a new directive, the Taliban has banned women from visiting male doctors to seek treatments. Where are women supposed to go if they need medical attention?

As per reports, this new rule was announced by the Directorate of Public Affairs and Hearing of Taliban Complaints which has issued a new restriction that male doctors will now stop treating female patients. They have also asked hospitals to keep an eye on whether this directive is being followed or not. 

In the last restriction imposed by the Taliban, they banned women from seeking higher education and attending universities. So, this means that the dreams and aspirations of women who wanted to become doctors or practise medicine were shattered. And now, given that women cannot go to a male doctor, who will provide treatment to women when they are in need of it? 

When the Taliban banned women from attending universities and colleges, it caused a huge uproar all across the world. Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said that he is ‘deeply concerned’ about this new decree. The UN Security Council has also urged Taliban leaders to lift this restriction and let women go to universities. But these requests have fallen on deaf ears and there has been no change in the education system yet.

Not letting women seek medical treatment is just sadistic. This proves that they want to cripple Afghani women in every way possible so that they lose their willingness to get back up again.
