On Tuesday, the Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj, a student organisation, is going to hold a Nabanna Abhijan rally, even though the authorities have not given their permission. The rally focuses on the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and arrests those who are behind the horrific Kolkata doctor rape and murder case. Here are some key highlights of the rally.

1. Student organisation Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj stated that their rally on August 27 to Nabanna will be peaceful and will focus on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation and arrest of those involved in the crime. However, on Monday, Kolkata’s Additional Police Commissioner, Supratim Sarkar stated that the organisation’s request to organize the march was turned down. The West Bengal Police has called the rally illegal and unauthorized.
2. The spokesperson for Chatra Samaj, Sayan Lahiri, mentioned that the march won’t cause any inconvenience to UGC-NET candidates as the exam will take place in two shifts. The exam will be conducted in two sessions: from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 3 pm to 6 pm.
3. According to PTI, ADG (law and order) Manoj Verma stated that the police have received information of possible violence and disorder by external forces during the rally. Furthermore, the state government has already imposed restrictions near Nabanna under Section 163 of the BNSS, prohibiting gatherings of five or more people.

4. Moreover, according to reports, riot-control vehicles will be stationed at various spots in Kolkata, along with water cannons, tear gas shells, guard rails, aluminium alloy walls, and drones to stop the protesters. As per the Times of India, approximately 4,500 police officers will form barricades at seven places in Kolkata and Howrah to prevent the protesters from reaching the location.
