The chilling details of the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case continue to unravel, and the latest revelation is perhaps the most disturbing yet. According to police sources, Sonam Raghuvanshi, the woman accused of orchestrating the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, had a brutal backup plan in place, she allegedly intended to push him off a mountain herself if her hired killers couldn’t carry out the job.
Sonam Raghuvanshi’s Planned To Push Husband From Hill
As per investigators, Sonam shared this plan with her alleged lover and co-conspirator, Raj Kushwaha. During a conversation reportedly retrieved by police, she is believed to have said that if the hired men, Vishal, Anand, and Akash, failed to kill Raja, she would take matters into her own hands, pretending to pose for a photo and then shoving him down the cliff.
The sinister plot was reportedly set in motion just days after Sonam returned to her maternal home in Indore on May 15, four days after her wedding. From there, she booked tickets to Guwahati and began coordinating the murder plan over calls with Raj. To stall Raja and buy time, Sonam is believed to have suggested a visit to the Kamakhya temple in Assam before heading to Meghalaya. Investigators suspect this was a way to delay intimacy and move the plan along without raising suspicion.
The couple checked out of a homestay in Nongriat village on May 23. Ten days later, Raja’s body was discovered in a deep gorge nearly 20 km away. Police say the murder was executed by three young men, Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), Akash Rajput (19), and Anand Kurmi, allegedly recruited by Raj on Sonam’s instructions. After the murder, Sonam disappeared, only to reappear on June 8 when she surrendered at a police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. By then, the three suspects had already been nabbed in separate overnight raids across UP, Indore, and Sagar. Raj Kushwaha was later arrested and remains in custody with the others under Meghalaya Police.
Raja’s autopsy confirmed a violent death. According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, the report showed two sharp injuries on his head, one at the back, the other in front, suggesting a targeted and premeditated attack.
