Fasting Method For Masik Shivratri

As per  Drik Panchang, devotees wanting to observe Masik Shivratri Vrat can do it from Maha Shivratri and pursue it for one year. They should stay awake during Shivratri and pray to Lord Shiva at night. This occasion is considered very auspicious if it falls on Tuesday and the Shivratri Puja is to be performed during midnight, aka, Nishita Kaal.

On Trayodashi Tithi, which is a day before Shivratri, devotees should eat food only once a day. On the Shivratri day, they should pledge to fast the entire day. They should also pray or visit the temple only after taking a bath in the evening. While Lord Shiva would be worshipped at night, the fast should be broken the next day after taking a bath. To enjoy the full benefits, devotees should break the fast between sunrise and sunset of Chaturdashi Tithi.
