She has shocked fans after she admitted to using the GLP-1 medication to lose weight, resulting in an extreme 31-lb transformation. Wimbledon star Serena Williams, who made it through multiple injuries, pregnancies, life scares, and more, has opened up about more. During a recent conversation with PEOPLE, Williams revealed that she had been using the GLP-1 medication that helped her shed the pounds. She said, “I feel good and healthy. I feel physically and mentally light.” She revealed that her struggles with weight gain began after the birth of her daughter, Alexis Olympia, in 2017.

She said that her body underwent changes that she couldn’t control despite years of crucial training. She said that getting to the weight she wanted seemed impossible, even after extreme training. Serena said that it was new for her as she had never worked so hard and eaten so good without the kind of results she wanted. She admitted to not taking any shortcuts her entire career.

But while this revelation seemed empowering and educational to some, others on the internet accused the athlete of promoting GLP-1. One user commented, “So now Serena Williams is publicly promoting GLP-1 from Ro, an Ozempic-like product, and claiming her use of it for weight loss, as a healthy choice.” This debate on the internet divided fans into preaching her honesty or being disappointed by it. Many said that Serena shouldn’t normalise dependency on weight-loss drugs.
