Ratan Tata Death: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shine Recommends Bharat Ratna For Former Tata Group Chairman

On Wednesday, October 9, veteran industrialist Ratan Tata passed away in a South Mumbai hospital due to age-related reasons. The nation was swamped with the loss of an icon who helped so many people and created a change. Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, has proposed that the Bharat Ratna be conferred posthumously to Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons. The plan that has been approved at the state level will be conveyed to the central government. The Maharashtra government has proclaimed a day of mourning in the state to honour the legendary industrialist.

On Thursday, October Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde proposed Bharat Ratna for the late industrialist Ratan Tata. The Maharashtra government has proclaimed a day of mourning in the state to honour the legendary industrialist. Tata’s mortal remains are being preserved at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in south Mumbai from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and his final rites will be performed later that day in Mumbai’s Worli neighbourhood. Union Home Minister Amit Shah would attend the last rites.

Ratan Tata was under extensive care and critical condition and took his last breath at 86. He shared a statement on Monday saying that he was undergoing routine medical care due to age and medical conditions. In 2008, the industrialist received the second-highest civilian honour in India, Padma Vibhushan. This was after he received the third-highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan in 2000. He then succeeded J R D Tata as chairman of Tata Sons when the latter retired in 1991. During his tenure, the Tata Group acquired Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus to transform Tata from a primarily India-focused company into a worldwide player.
