Just hours after a video of DGP Ramachadra Rao in an alleged inappropriate state went viral, the state government suspended him following allegations of obscene conduct. The ruling notes a prima facie breach of Rule 3 of the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968. Suspension was imposed while an investigation was underway under Rule 3(1)(a) of the All India Service (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969. Mr Rao is not permitted to leave headquarters without prior approval and will be paid a subsistence allowance in accordance with the rules. He was under check amid the gold smuggling case involving his stepdaughter, Ranya Rao.
He has now again made headlines after a video of him behaving inappropriately with a woman in his government office during duty hours surfaced. Along with this, two audio recordings were also released in which he was heard chatting with a lady. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara mentioned that the government has acted swiftly by suspending Mr Rao. They also said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident, and the minister mentioned that further action would be taken based on the findings of the probe.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Mr Parameshwara stated that the suspension was an expedient response required by the gravity of the situation.
