Rajasthan Govt To Provide 12 Sanitary Pads To Each Woman Every Month. But Is It Enough To Maintain Menstrual Hygiene?

Government schemes play a huge role in empowering women of a state or country. It becomes crucial for the ruling administration to come out with schemes that not only benefit women but take care of their basic needs. In an effort to do the same, and in fact a little more, the Rajasthan government has announced a sanitary pad scheme for women. The sole objective of taking this step was to break the taboo that revolves around menstruation.

On December 14, Wednesday, Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot was attending a press conference in Sawai Madhopur. The Chief Minister announced the new sanitary pad scheme by his government. Under this scheme, every woman and girl in the state will be provided with 12 sanitary pads every month. The Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot also said at the press conference that this new scheme was to extend support to women, so they do not have to suffer alone during menstruation, as per the news.

Ashok Gehlot also believes that there should be no hesitation existing around the topic of menstruation, and this new scheme has been announced to encourage this idea. Previously also the Rajasthan government launched ‘Udaan’, a scheme initiated to provide women, and girls with free sanitary napkins, and the move was inspired by Akshay Kumar’s Padman.

This is really an applaudable move by the government. There are many women in India, who cannot afford pads and continue using unhygienic clothes during their menstrual cycle. Providing them with pads might be a good way to encourage them into using pads, and maybe this should also start conversations over the topic of menstruation.
