Brown people have literally dominated almost every field globally. Zohran Mamdani is a clear example of that. He was sworn in as the 112th mayor of New York City on January 1, 2026. Now, let’s agree to the fact that even before he was elected, we saw him dominating our social media feeds and we couldn’t help but love his personality. Zohran brought in the same charm during his Mayoral oath ceremony which was blended with a sprinkle of desiness and creating history by doing something unconventional and iconic! This involves him wearing an Assamese Eri Silk tie, dancing on Punjabi beats and more!

1. Zohran Mamdani Wears Assamese Eri Silk Tie

During his mayoral oath ceremony, Zohran Mamdani made a fashion statement by wearing a custom Assamese eri silk tie from a Delhi based labed named Kartik Research. Since it is reportedly made without harming the silkworms, it is also termed as ahimsa (peace) silk. Its golden embroidery made the tie stand out!

2. Punjabi Music Takes Centre Stage

Wearing an Assamese Eri tie wasn’t the only cultural expression Zohran brought during the ceremony. He connected with South Asians by dancing on Punjabi beats. Toronto-based artist Babbu Singh truly stole the spotlight by performing ‘Gaddi Red Challenger’ as the ceremony concluded. The new mayor of New York City along with his wife, Rama Duwaji and supporters, joined him and grooved on the beats. This isn’t the first time desi music was played at a political event. During his victory speech, Zohran also played the iconic ‘Dhoom Machale’ song.

5. Rama Duwaji’s Outfit Turned Heads!

During the ceremony, Rama Duwaji reportedly donned a coat by Renaissance. Cynthia Merhej, who owns the brand, is a Palestinian-Lebanese designer. The brown coat, made in Beirut, was created with custom faux fur and wool consisting three- tier fringe pattern. Her style truly turned everyone’s heads at the event.

Zohran Mamdani is one of the most loved personalities on the internet. His win was significant because it perfectly represented the South Asians as well. This victory will truly go down in history. We wish all the best to Zohran for the journey ahead!
