Women’s safety again becomes a joke as a man in Bengaluru’s Govindapura area has been arrested for allegedly following, sexually harassing, and physically assaulting a woman in broad daylight. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Maroof Sharief, who reportedly targeted the woman while she had stepped out to buy groceries. Imagine going out to run errands in day time and getting assaulted by a man.
Bengaluru Man Forcibly Bites Woman’s Lip
According to police, Sharief followed her, behaved in a lewd and inappropriate manner, and then suddenly grabbed her, forcibly kissed her, and bit her lip on a public road. The report also revealed that the victim had even managed to break free. She then immediately informed her mother about the incident. The mother and daughter than later approached the Govindapura Police Station, where a formal complaint was registered. Following the report, the police acted swiftly and took Sharief into custody. He has since been booked under sections related to sexual harassment and public indecency.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case in the city. Bengaluru has seen a worrying rise in public harassment incidents in recent months. On June 6, two back-to-back cases were reported near Milton Park in Cooke Town, where a man allegedly misbehaved with women walking in the area. In one shocking instance, the man forcibly hugged and kissed a woman inside the park. When confronted, he allegedly shrugged it off, saying that “telling anyone won’t change anything,” before running away.
In a separate incident from April, CCTV footage from BTM Layout showed a man following two women late at night and groping one of them before fleeing the scene. That video quickly went viral, sparking outrage on social media and calls for stronger action against such offenders.
